"Modern girls (モダンガール, modan gāru) (also shortened to moga) were Japanese women who followed Westernized fashions and lifestyles in the period after World War I.
Moga were Japan's equivalent of America's flappers."

Version 1 (pink) was a lot more about growth and change through meeting other people and hearing their ideas. Which is very important and fun in it's own way; but even Ayane's escape from her father's henchmen was more a stroke of luck than any sort of skill on Ayane's part.
Though it was a shame to cut all the cool side characters, I like that the events of Version 2 happen directly because of Ayane. She chooses the clothes she changes into, and it's her quick thinking that helps her thwart the henchmen. And in the end it's her choice to finally go home, wearing the shoes she had bought herself.
